Description: This paper presents a foundational analysis of sturgeon distribution in Ukraine, based on findings collected from 2009 to 2018 in 122 localities. The study highlights the presence and frequency of various sturgeon species such as Acipenser ruthenus, Huso huso, Acipenser gueldenstaedtii, and Acipenser stellatus, as well as the absence of Acipenser sturio and A. nudiventris. It also discusses the challenges in sturgeon research, including insufficient funding, lack of standardized methodologies, and difficulties in obtaining permits. The paper offers recommendations for adopting EU-standardized monitoring techniques to support effective ichthyological research and conservation of endangered sturgeon species.
