Description: This scientific article presents results of an 18-year hydrobiological monitoring study (2004–2021) conducted in the Ukrainian part of the Danube’s avandelta. The authors assess the ecological status of this transitional river-sea zone using morphofunctional indicators of periphyton communities attached to artificial substrates (navigation buoys). The research demonstrates the correlation between Danube runoff volume and shifts in periphyton structure and ecological quality classes, applying EU Water Framework Directive standards.
