Description: This article presents the first-time application in Ukraine of the Polish MMOR (Macrofitowa Metoda Oceny Rzek) method to evaluate the ecological status of rivers using aquatic macrophyte communities. Focusing on the Seversky Donets River and its tributaries in the Kharkiv region, the study demonstrates the effectiveness of the MIR (Macrophyte Index for Rivers) in environmental monitoring and highlights its compatibility with existing chemical and biological water assessment methods. The findings support the integration of this method into Ukraine’s surface water quality assessment methodology.
