SturNet aims to contribute to the long-term conservation of sturgeon species in the Black Sea region by establishing a transnational cooperation network and a real-time digital mapping tool. These ancient fish face growing threats due to habitat degradation, pollution, overfishing, and climate change. Since sturgeons migrate across borders, coordinated action among countries is crucial.

The project’s overall objective is to implement joint actions for the protection and preservation of sturgeons, particularly those in the Huso and Acipenser genera, by:

  • Collecting environmental and biological data relevant to sturgeon conservation
  • Developing a digital tool and mobile application to assess real-time conservation risk across marine zones
  • Supporting policy and stakeholder collaboration through the Transnational Sturgeon Network (SturNet)
  • Promoting public awareness and cross-border engagement
